Reinert wins first annual WNC Clay Olympics

Jim Reinert of of Reinert Pottery in Owosso, Mich., was the overall champion in the first WNC Clay Olympics, held Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Tree House Pottery in Dillsboro, N.C.

The goal of the competition was to create the tallest cylinder and widest bowl within 10 minutes. Reinert took top honors for the best combined work.

Shadow May of Shadow Pottery in Chattanooga, Tenn., won the award for tallest cylinder, while Trent Berning of Berning Clay Gallery in Fallbrook, Calif., captured the award for the widest bowl.

There was also a blindfolded competition to see who could create a two-pound cylinder in two minutes. Tom Seelos of Marietta, Ga., was the winner.
